Rethinking wealth

Rethinking wealth

Friday 12th August 2022

You can stroll down the aisles of a bookstore, surf through the book section on Amazon.com, or scroll through Booktopia and you will discover many so-called wealth-gurus on their top seller lists sharing their ideas on creating wealth.  It is a topic that is relevant to every human being. As Christ followers, we see ourselves as sons and daughters of God who live in the rich inheritance through God’s grace. We act as stewards of His wealth when we serve His purposes with what is entrusted to us. That is probably the most important distinction between a servant of Christ and a servant of self when it comes to earthly wealth:

'But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. '

Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV

The mindset from which we approach this stewardship needs the underlying conviction that God is good and He loves us more than we can ever comprehend. His love for us is the motive of His empowerment in our lives.

'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love '

Ephesians 1:3-4 NIV

In the coming weeks, we will look at how we can steward best the gifts of time, treasure (material wealth), and talent. Living in God’s promised land for our lives is very empowering and comes with a great deal of responsibility. As we work through these three areas of stewardship it is my prayer that you will see your life develop as a means by which His presence can fill every place!
