Playgroup
Do you love young families and have a heart to see them come closer to each other and to Christ?
At Playgroup we form communities of young families from church and the community, and seek to develop meaningful connections between believers and unbelievers.
We seek to create an environment of love, acceptance and support in each of our playgroup sessions. We love to assist in practical ways as well as offer parenting, relationship and “life” tips, while pointing families to the ultimate source of life, Jesus Christ.
Sue Nicholls | Playgroup Ministry Director
Join us in helping to create an environment of love and nurture for young families and share Christ’s presence by supporting them at a critical time of their lives.
What is involved?
Playgroup Roles
Playgroup helper for those with daytime availability and a heart to connect with young families:
Ensures that the playgroup session runs smoothly and supports the families. Each child is present with a parent or other caregiver, so it is not child-minding!
The role varies greatly according to the skills and gifts of the helper but may include washing paint brushes, holding babies, helping a toddler with crafts while mum is busy, singing nursery rhymes, reading a story, consoling a child or mum, praying with a parent, pastoral care phone calls, etc.
Most playgroup helpers are child-free.
Time commitment – approximately 2 hours on a regular weekday during school term.
Training and support – provided by the Playgroup ministry director during playgroup sessions plus team gatherings and personal contact.
Other support roles and tasks you may like to discuss with Sue Nicholls if any of these are in line with your gifts and passions:
- Helping to run Parenting courses and Lifekeys Woman to Woman for our playgroup families.
- Childminding for the above courses.
- Preparing meals for playgroup freezer, to be given to families in times of illness or other crises.
