Election season is here…

Election season is here…

Friday 11th November 2022

Today at eleven o'clock we took a moment to remember those who had died in the First World War. This conflict had mobilised over 70 million people and left between nine and 13 million dead and as many as one third of these with no grave. Our history has brought us to where we are today.

I kept one eye on the US mid-term elections this week. I am thankful to be in Australia. Soon I will have my eyes on the Victorian state elections. Still thankful to be in Australia. One idea that rears its head in election seasons in conversations between Christians, is the concept of “godly governance”.  I am not always 100% sure what people mean when they use that term, but I do know we need leadership that will represent Christ in all spheres of society.

All throughout the bible, the indirect impact of governments, monarchies, patriarchy, and socialism can be seen. There is no perfect human governmental system. Ideally, Christians live in a theocracy – a system where God rules in absolution. In practice, however, we as Christians still work on putting our own bodies under His control:

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going to work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, and develops well-formed maturity in you. '

Romans 12:1-2 MSG

It was after we caught up on what was presented as “news” by the major TV channels that one of my children made an interesting comment:

Actually, every day is election day for a Christian >>>

we elect who will rule over us every day: God…or the culture >>>

Let’s be aware of who we choose to govern over our lives (God or self) as we prayerfully approach our responsibility to elect who should govern over our state.

Ode of Remembrance | 11/11/2022

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

We have two groups:
