His name…His way

His name…His way

Friday 17th June 2022

Why do we name things?  A name is a word or a combination of words by which a person, place, or thing, a body or class, or any object of thought is designated, called, or known. We read in the book of acts how the name ‘Christians’ came about. After a year of emersion in the teaching of the Apostles, the essence of the way Jesus lived had been condensed into the hearts of the church. They became a community that deeply understood and expressed life according to Jesus Christ.

'Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.) The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.'

Acts 11:25-30 NIV

Supernatural intervention was in the order of the day, followed by serving those in need. This was way more than mere humanitarian initiatives, it was a continuation of the greatest mission ever undertaken: The transformation of lives through the news that Jesus Christ can be most accurately represented by humans who believe in Him!

This is how it started:

'And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.'

Mark 16:17-20 NIV

This mission would need a group of people like those in Antioch who were first called “Christ-ians”. An ekklesia (a community of modelling citizens) that is immersed in the Spirit of their Leader, doing what He would be doing. A community where the deep rooted revelation of being part of God’s family positions you to serve in His name. The theologian Carl Bosch rightly stated:

The church – in essence – doesn’t have a mission, >>>

but the mission has a church! >>>

This immense mission is what we’re part of…it is our purpose for being. We have Christ in us and found a way of letting Him work through us. We have found a beautiful way of expressing it among us as Berwick Church of Christ:

It ties in so beautifully with the proposed name for what will become a movement that serves its cities in a supernatural way.

God Spoke – Prayer | Sunday 19th June

This Sunday is the climax of a 3-part series, ‘God Inside’. During the week, in a time of worship with Church Staff, God began to speak to several of us. I personally was given clarity about this Sunday’s message and a strong sense we needed to invite the church to pray this Sunday from 9:30 to 10:00am. We are inviting everyone who can possibly come, to meet in the front of the church auditorium from 9:30am to seek God in prayer asking for a greater outpouring of his spirit in our church and on our city. We are asking for personal encounters with God in our service this week.

The prayer is for onsite only. Will you join us?

Sunday Service | God Inside 3

Empowered to do!

Are supernatural Gifts of the Spirit just for Jesus, or can any follower of Christ step into this realm?

Just as God by his Spirit lived and operated through the body of the man, Jesus, so the resurrected Jesus, sitting on the throne, operates by the Holy Spirit in and through his body, the church, and through each individual follower of Christ. As Jesus was the representative of God the father so the church is the representative of Christ.

It is time for each of us to rise up into God’s great plan!

If you can’t make it Sunday in person, join us online and watch live stream via YouTube or Facebook at 10am.

Discussion Forum | Sunday 19th June

Dear partner,

The past two weeks we had our first rounds of Discussion Forums with our partners. The quality of the engagements and the insight gained from them is something we as board cherish deeply.

We do have the need to give more people access to these forums and have made the decision to change the planned Partners Gathering on Sunday 19 June at 12:30pm to an additional Discussion Forum for our partners. For the sake of the quality of our discussions, we accommodate the first 20 partners per forum. More forums may be held in the future if the need is there. This would mean that you would be able to book in for this Discussion Forum via the BOOK NOW link.

Thank you for being part of this!
