A Response to the Magnificence of God

At BCOC, worship is a deeply ingrained practice in our community, representing an essential connection between us and the triune God. It is a response that emerges from a profound understanding of who God is. This understanding can and must only be based on a revelation given to us by God about himself. Any human effort to reveal God would fall short! “But, how can we receive this revelation?” you may ask. Well, let’s start at the beginning of God’s revelation to us…way before the book of Genesis.

In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:1-5;14 NIV

If you study the scriptures on Jesus’ life, Holy Spirit will renew your appreciation for WHO and HOW God is. As a follower of Christ, you cannot read the synoptic gospels enough! It is the account of God in Christ’s life by eyewitnesses. As you read the scriptures you will develop a foundation for a deeper experience in worship. Do it! You’ll be glad you did and your worship will become enriched in the following ways:

As a recognition of God's Sovereignty:
Worship arises from the recognition that God is the ultimate authority and ruler over all creation. It acknowledges His sovereignty, His limitless power, and His complete control over the universe. When we grasp the magnitude of God's sovereignty, we respond with reverence and adoration, humbly acknowledging our place before Him.

As an appreciation of God's Love and Grace:
Worship is a heartfelt response to God's unfathomable love and boundless grace. It is through His love and grace that humanity finds the Kingdom of God in a world where the nations rage. In worship, we express gratitude for His sacrificial love demonstrated through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. Our response is marked by awe, joy, and a deep sense of indebtedness for His immeasurable love.

In reverence for God's Holiness:
Worship is an expression of reverence for God's holiness and purity. The realization of His perfect nature, untainted by sin or imperfection, evokes a response of humility and a desire to draw near to Him. It compels us to approach Him with a sense of awe and reverence, acknowledging His righteousness and seeking to align our lives with His perfect standards.

As admiration of God's Creative Power:
Worship is a response to the awe-inspiring creativity displayed in God's handiwork. The intricacy of nature, the beauty of the universe, and the diversity of life all testify to His divine craftsmanship. When we recognize the immense creativity of God, worship becomes an avenue to express admiration, wonder, and gratitude for the beauty and complexity of His creation.

In conclusion, worship is a natural response to who God is. It emerges from a deep understanding of His sovereignty, love, holiness, and creative power. Worship allows us to express reverence, gratitude, and admiration as we encounter the magnificence of God. Through worship, we celebrate intimacy in a meaningful relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, experiencing His presence and finding fulfilment in our spiritual journey.

Sunday Service |Worship

The way we see God has a profound impact on how we respond to Him in worship. Unfortunately the picture we carry of Him in our hearts is not always fully aligned with what the Bible says, so this Sunday we will be looking at what the Word of God says about God’s character and how that translates into our worship and relationship with Him.

Why not come early and enjoy a coffee at our cafe? We look forward to seeing you!
