Daily we pray for this…

Daily we pray for this…

Wednesday 13th September 2023

“Give us this day our daily bread" is a pivotal phrase from the Lord's Prayer, a model of prayer given by Jesus to his disciples in the Gospels of Matthew (6:9-13) and Luke (11:2-4). In just seven words, it encapsulates profound spiritual truths about prayer, trust, and our dependence on God.

This request begins with the word “give," acknowledging God as the ultimate giver. In the book of James, we read,

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father"

James 1:17 NIV

“Daily bread" represents not only our physical needs but also our spiritual sustenance. In John 6:35, Jesus declares, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." Here, Jesus invites us to partake of His teachings and His presence for our spiritual nourishment.

The word “day" emphasizes the immediacy of our request. We are not asking for a stockpile of provisions but rather a daily reliance on God as our provider. In Exodus 16, God provided the Israelites with manna in the wilderness, instructing them to gather only what they needed for that day. This teaches us to trust God for our daily needs and not to be anxious about the future.

This phrase also underscores the importance of gratitude. When we ask for our daily bread, we acknowledge God's past provisions and express gratitude for His ongoing care. Psalm 103:2-5 encourages us,

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."

Moreover, “give us this day our daily bread" invites us to focus on the needs of the present moment. In Matthew 6:34, Jesus advises,

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

By seeking God's provision for today, we are reminded to live in the present, relying on God's grace and guidance.

This phrase of the Lord’s prayer teaches us to approach God with humility and trust. It encourages us to be content with God's daily provision and to seek His presence and guidance afresh each day. When we pray “give us this day our daily bread," we acknowledge our dependence on God and surrender our worries about the future into His loving hands.

In conclusion, “give us this day our daily bread" is a concise yet profound prayer that encompasses our physical and spiritual needs. It encourages us to approach God with gratitude, trust, and to focus on the present moment. As we incorporate this phrase into our prayers, we deepen our relationship with God, recognising His ongoing provision and care.

Men’s Event – God’s Squad | Sunday 8th October | 6pm

Are you ready to have an unforgettable night with other like-minded men? Then mark your calendars for the upcoming Men’s Event on 8th October @ 6pm. This event is designed to provide a fun and engaging atmosphere for men to connect, share stories, and make new friends. There will be plenty of time to catch up over a BBQ and hear from an amazing speaker who will share about the God’s Squad history and vision.

The God’s Squad Christian Motorcycle Club (GSCMC), it was founded in 1971. In 1972, God’s Squad began in Melbourne under the leadership of John Smith. God’s Squad spread from Australia and now has multiple chapters throughout Europe, New Zealand, and the USA. God’s Squad has continued for over five decades to devote its efforts to those on the fringes of society. It has maintained a long commitment to supporting the poor, advocating for the rights of first nation people, and active ministry in prisons, schools, and the public space. All of this has been built on a foundation of radical discipleship in Christ and the truth of the Gospel.

The Club continues to exist primarily to minister among motorcycle clubs and associated groups, where it is seen as an accepted and relevant expression of the Christian Church.

So, why wait? Gather your mates and come along for a great evening! We look forward to seeing you there!
