Pursuing God’s Will: Building a Strong Foundation

Pursuing God's Will: Building a Strong Foundation

Wednesday 25th October 2023

Building a house is a metaphor often used in the Bible to illustrate the importance of establishing a solid foundation in life before adding the finishing touches. Pursuing God's will for your life is very much like the process of constructing a house, where the foundation represents a strong and unwavering faith in God, and the finishing touches symbolise the unique calling He has for each individual.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus teaches this concept in Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV):

“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

This passage underscores the importance of a strong foundation in the face of life's challenges. Pursuing God's will requires unwavering faith and obedience to His teachings, just as a house needs a sturdy base to withstand storms.

In building a house, the foundation is laid before the details of the structure are worked on. Similarly, in pursuing God's will, one must first establish a deep and unwavering relationship with Him. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) emphasizes this:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Trusting God wholeheartedly is the foundation on which His will for your life can be built.

Once the foundation is secure, God's will can be revealed in your life. Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) states,

“For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

God has unique plans and purposes for each individual, just as a house takes on its distinct finishing touches to become a unique and beautiful home.

In conclusion, pursuing God's will for your life is akin to building a house with a strong foundation of faith and trust in Him before adding the finer details of His calling. Just as a well-constructed house stands firm against life's challenges, a life aligned with God's will finds purpose, strength, and resilience in the face of adversity. So, let your foundation be in Christ, and allow Him to complete the masterpiece of His will in your life.
