When He makes all things New…!

When He makes all things New…!

Wednesday 21st February 2024

Our mission to raise and equip followers of Christ is progressing beautifully! In planning our services, we regularly assess the important aspects of a life following Christ and how we should disciple our people on Sundays toward the inheritance we have in Him. A highlight, no doubt, is when we engage in the sacraments (a sacrament is a sacred ceremony instituted by Jesus Christ himself and considered to be a visible sign of God's grace). Due to the sheer number of people being convicted to follow Christ through baptism, we will take a one-week break from the current series and focus on the two sacraments this coming Sunday. We will conclude the “Harmony of the Heart” series on Sunday, the 3rd of March, by looking into the season when children start to leave home and the attention shifts.

Holy Communion

Christ Followers see Holy Communion as a central practice of the Christian community, where they participate in the ongoing story of God’s redemption. In participating, we emphasise the sacrament’s connection to the Jewish Passover meal, understanding it as a celebration of Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection. For us, communion is not merely a memorial or symbolic act but a means through which we are nourished spiritually and make time to be brought into deeper communion with Christ and one another.

We underscore the importance of understanding the Holy Communion in its historical and theological context, emphasizing its current-day dimension. Christ Followers anticipate the future consummation of God’s kingdom when Christ returns. Thus, it serves as a foretaste of the heavenly banquet and a proclamation of Christ’s victory over sin and death.

The communal aspect of Holy Communion fosters unity and reconciliation within the Church. It stresses the importance of shared participation as a manifestation of the Church’s identity as the body of Christ.

Water Baptism

Water Baptism is a sacramental act that initiates individuals into the Christian community and marks their identification with Jesus Christ. It draws upon biblical imagery, particularly from Paul’s writings, to elucidate the significance of Water Baptism as a participation in Christ’s death and resurrection. Water Baptism symbolises the believer’s dying to sin and rising to new life in Christ.

It also emphasises the communal dimension as an entry into the covenant community of God’s people. Water Baptism not only signifies personal salvation but also incorporates individuals into the larger story of God’s redemptive work in the world.

There are ongoing implications of Water Baptism for the Christian life, being the beginning of a journey of discipleship and transformation. We engage upon the Holy Spirit’s guidance and continually live out the implications of the baptismal identity, reflecting the character of Christ in our thoughts, actions, and relationships… in every place.

Our participation in Holy Communion and Water Baptism highlights the central role they play in the life of the Church and their significance for understanding the Christian faith within the broader biblical narrative. The sacramental nature, communal dimension, and transformative power shape the identity and mission of God’s people.
