Why we need to plant new churches

Why we need to plant new churches

Wednesday 11th October 2023

As we approach our new series on planting and growing faith communities, I’d like to  emphasise the vital role of a church family in the life of a believer. This perspective, deeply rooted in the Bible, underscores the importance of being part of a community of faith. The church is not a physical building, a traditional institution, or even a Sunday program, but a faith community. What you get from this creative community are citizens of God’s Kingdom modelling God’s way of doing life!

A church is a group of people doing life together expressing His presence in every place
1. Spiritual Growth and Accountability

Scripture emphasizes that a church family provides an environment for spiritual growth and accountability. Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) underscores this:

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another."

A church family encourages believers to grow in their faith, holding them accountable in their walk with God. The more we evangelize, the more we need new faith communities. No one is born again in a spiritually mature state. We all need an environment where we can grow to maturity.

2. Support and Encouragement

In times of joy and hardship, a church family stands as a source of support and encouragement. Galatians 6:2 (NIV) affirms this:

“Carry each other's burdens, and in this way, you will fulfil the law of Christ."

The church highlights the importance of bearing one another's burdens, offering a sense of belonging and care within the church family.

3. Opportunities for Service and Ministry

Being part of a church family provides opportunities for service and ministry. 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) states,

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."

Faith communities emphasize that the church is a place where believers can discover and utilize their spiritual gifts for the greater good.

4. Fellowship and Community

A church family fosters fellowship and community, fulfilling the biblical call to love one another. 1 John 4:12 (NIV) states,

“No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is made complete in us."

Scripture underscores the transformative power of loving relationships within the church family, mirroring God's love.

5. Worship and Spiritual Nourishment

Attending a church family provides the opportunity for corporate worship and spiritual nourishment. Psalm 122:1 (NIV) expresses this sentiment:

“I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord."

The church emphasizes the significance of coming together to worship God, drawing strength and inspiration from communal worship experiences.

In conclusion, a church family is not merely an option but a necessity in the life of a believer. Grounded in the teachings of the Bible, the church family provides a context for spiritual growth, support, service, fellowship, and worship. By being an integral part of a church family, individuals can experience the fullness of God's plan for their lives and contribute to the well-being of the community of faith.

Exciting News from BCOC | Double Services Trial Run!

We're thrilled to announce a two-week trial of double services at BCOC to better accommodate our growing faith community. As we've reached capacity in both seating and parking, this initiative aims to share your worship experience with people in your sphere of influence who may currently not find our services accessible.

This trial allows you to consider which service best suits your schedule and preferences. We value your input and hope this adjustment will help us to continue to serve our community effectively. Your feedback is vital during this period, so please share your thoughts and observations with us.

To help with traffic flow, we would appreciate you do the following.

Clyde Church Launch | Highlight

On Sunday, October 8th, Clyde Church was launched with nearly 60 people in attendance. The majority of guests were checking out the new church for the first time! The atmosphere felt great and we concluded with lunch. The message set up a five-week series called “Life without Limits” that now moves into Home Churches for the next 4 weeks. The next service at the hall will be on Nov 12th.

We held a special community program focusing on emotional health and well-being running parallel to the church launch. We began with a free seminar featuring a panel of professional experts. This now leads into the 5-week Thrive Clinic, starting Oct 11th. The Clinic focuses on coming alongside participants to provide key insights, mentoring, and prayer to achieve healing and freedom.

Men's Event | Highlight

What an unforgettable night Sunday was! Ten Harley Davidson’s rumbled their way up Centre Road and it was a sight to be seen as they turned into Berwick Church of Christ. The Gods Squad Christian Motorcycle Club (GSCMC) were the special guests at our Men’s Event which saw 130 men catch up over a BBQ and admire some beautiful-looking motorcycles!

Dave from the God’s Squad shared the club's history, which devotes their effort to those on the fringes of society and ministers among motorcycle clubs and associated groups.

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who helped run this fantastic event! You blessed so many people.

Sunday Service | Planting Faith Communities | 9am & 11am

This Sunday we are kicking off our new series “Plant and Grow Faith Communities" with special guest, Jossy Chacko.  Jossy is the Founder and President of Empart, a global organisation that exists to ignite community transformation movements among unreached people. Empart’s primary goal is to transform 100,000 communities among unreached people in Asia by 2030.

Jossy left India at the age of 17, with $20 in his pocket, a one-way ticket to Australia, and a big dream to become a business success. After early struggles with no money, and no friends or family, he started at the bottom of a small logistics company, which later grew to be listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.

Busy climbing the corporate ladder and chasing success, Jossy’s life was changed forever by an encounter with an eight-year-old homeless boy from the slums of Delhi. This chance encounter culminated in the establishment of Empart in 1998.

Jossy will explore the biblical and practical aspects of planting faith communities. Jossy is a gifted communicator with a unique depth of wisdom. Jossy is married to Jenni, and they have four children. So mark your calendar and join us this Sunday. Let’s raise the roof with joy, love, and a sense of purpose!

Don’t forget, Jossy will be preaching at both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for the Trial Double Services. We will not be live streaming these services due to sensitive content and information being shared. A recording of the service will be available on YouTube and Facebook on Thursday 19th October.
